Quazi's Strategy:
The grenade is an extremely powerful tool. It can be used to keep the enemy at bay or wipe out an entire force in one blow. Using the grenade effectively however, is a very complicated task. First, I will go over the use of the grenade itself. There are many different things that you can do to change the trajectory of the grenade. First you must realize that the grenade is affected by your movement. If you are prone or crouched, the grenade will not go very far when you throw it. You gain an advantage if you're standing up. A bigger advantage if you're moving. A bigger advantage still if you're running. And the longest distance goes with a jump. That's right, a jump. If you run, and jump, and release your grenade, it will FLY. Don't believe me? Try it. I've watched countless numbers of people simply huck their grenades in hopes that it will reach it's target. This should not be the case. Your grenade can hit your target every time if you throw it right. Strafing will also affect the trajectory of your grenade, though to a lesser extent. Also, using walls to bank your grenades is vital to get it around corners or up in windows. Do yourself a favor and go to a map like dod_heutau and just practice throwing the grenades. The payoff will be great and you'll find your grenades will be much more effective. Once you've mastered the technique of throwing grenades, there's another technique you need to learn called "priming." This involves throwing your grenade to the ground in front of you, picking it up with your use key, and holding it for a certain amount of time. Once a grenade leaves the hand of a person it's a live grenade. It can be picked up (or caught, yes you can catch grenades in air) and then used. Priming the grenade can be used to your advantage however. If there's a couple of MGs around the corner that just waste you as soon as you come around, simply holding down the primary attack button won't work. They'll just kill you and your grenade will drop before you can even throw it. However, priming your grenade, you can go around the corner and run at your opponent while releasing the primary fire button. The grenade will fly at your opponent and explode upon contact, or in mid-air if you time it right. Just learn the fuse times for yourself. It's a feeling thing that you have to get used to. Once you learn how to prime, you'll find yourself using it very often. Often people will reply: "How'd you do that?" or "Oh, nice hacked grenades!" (yes, people are this stupid). Just tell them you primed it, and go about your merry way.
Now that you know how to use your grenades, let's talk about strategies with them. As I said before you can use them to decimate forces. Try to save your grenades for groups of soldiers rather than the individual. But, don't be afraid to use one grenade if you just can't seem to kill that damned sniper or MG with your gun. Just prime your grenade, toss it over there and let them die. Be sure to aim with your grenades, put them in the right spot at the right time and bodies will be flying before you know it. If you are the Grenadier class, you can spam your grenades to keep the enemy at bay. Simply launching your grenades at the other end of the bridge in dod_ramelle will allow you to safely run in with your team and capture the bridge point. To the same effect, your grenades can be used as smoke-grenades when needed. If there's a deadly sniper in a window that tags you as soon as you inch your way out, toss a grenade first. After it explodes, sprint through (don't walk, it won't last that long) and you'll find yourself safe on the other side. Grenades are great tactical devices, but must be respected, especially in the cases of friendly-fire servers. Do your friends a favor, call out those grenades when you throw them. Bind a key to "voice_grenade" or "voice_fireinhole" and use that key when you see a grenade (or on a FF server, throw one of your own) and your team will thank you. At least, I know I will.
